The Last Week of Summer

This week we learned about action verbs. The students loved acting out verbs while playing "verb charades."
 David is choosing his verb.

Owen is trying to get the class to guess "swim."
Lily acting out "read."

The class is enjoying word study activity time. They are learning new activities each week to help them understand spelling patterns.

We are spending lots of time writing because we found that the only way to become better writers is to write!
We have been working on writing autobiographies as a class and the students also have time to write about whatever they choose in their notebooks.

During math Tati and Gavin helped us review even and odd numbers by dressing up as Even Steven and Odd Todd.

In science we finished our unit on plants. The students discovered all the different parts of plants that we eat. After sorting vegetables into plant part categories, the students enjoyed a healthy snack.

In social studies we are continuing to learn about our government.
We talked about the jobs of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
Here the students are doing motions to help them remember the role of each branch.

Here is a little glimpse into our weekly chapels...

The worship team leads us in praising our Creator.

Each week we have a speaker share from God's Word.
This week our guest speaker was Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived!
My dad, dressed as Solomon, came to speak to the students about wisdom and discernment.

On Friday we celebrated the last day of summer with popsicles!

One last thing... We have a missing notebook!! If you have seen the notebook or have any information on the notebook's whereabouts, please let Cade know A.S.A.P.! :)

Next week is Spirit Week! Show your LCCS pride by dressing up for these special days:
Monday: Backwards/Inside Out Day
Tuesday: Hat Day
Wednesday: Clash Day
Thursday: Sports Team Day
Friday: Blue and White Day

First Full Week!

This was our first full week and it seemed to fly by!
We've settled into our normal routine and the class is showing lots of enthusiasm for what we are learning.
We played same games to make phonics fun...

We learned some new vocabulary words...

We spent time reading and discussing some stories. The students practiced making predictions and also making connections between what they already know and what they are learning through reading.
The students also began writing a story about their morning routines. It is so fun to learn more about each student through their writing!
In Social Studies we are learning about government leaders. We discussed the qualities of good leaders and the blessing we have of living in a country where we get to vote for our leaders.
The students voted for who they thought were good leaders in our class. The votes were tallied, and the winners were...
Cade and Micah!
They "led" us in a game of Simon Says before we got to work learning about the leaders of our country.

We continued learning about God's creation of plants in science...
Two thumbs up for Owen's plant model!

Oliver and Elena working together to see how water moves through plants. We put celery stalks and  flowers in colored water, we are excited to see what happens after the weekend!

The students brought in different leaves from home to make leaf rubbings...

Seed Feast!

We had so much fun learning all about seeds this afternoon! First we discussed the life cycle of plants and then we cracked open lima beans to check out the different parts of the seed. We were amazed at the way God created seeds to provide food and protection for the tiny plant inside.

Connor showing off the seed coat...

Angela with the food part of the seed...

Oliver found the tiny plant inside his seed!

After dissecting the seeds, we put lima beans in wet paper towels. We will watch them as they sprout over the next week.

We also loved trying different foods at our seed feast! Thanks for sending in so many fruits and vegetables!

We also celebrated a special birthday today! Annika B. will be turning 8 on Sunday! Happy Birthday Annika, we are so thankful for you!

This must be the year for loose teeth. Three more students lost a tooth this week!

Sweet Sarah's new smile!

Angela with her adorable new look!

Owen's handsome new grin!

Have a refreshing weekend, looking forward to another wonderful week!!
