Celebrating Christmas!

This week we learned how Christmas is celebrated in different countries.
We made poinsettias and ate tortillas while we learned about Christmas in Mexico.

We learned that in France children set their shoes by their fireplaces before going to bed on Christmas Eve. When they wake up on Christmas morning, their shoes are filled with candy!

We also learned about Chinese New Year celebrations and Christmas in Germany.

We celebrated THREE birthdays this week!!
Cole turned 8 on December 6th, but since he was sick we had to postpone the celebration until this week.
Happy Birthday Cole! You bring joy to our class!!

We also celebrated Connor's birthday a week early, his actual birthday is on Christmas!!

Happy Birthday Connor! We are thankful for you and your smile!!

And finally, we celebrated Tatiana's 8th birthday!
Happy Birthday Tatiana! We are so glad you are in 2nd grade this year!!

Mrs. Lefever, who helps out in our classroom each afternoon, saw these fake teeth at the store and thought they would make the perfect Christmas presents for this class...

... I think she was right!

We were finally able to have 2nd Grade Family Night! Thank you so much for coming, it was such a fun night! The students did a fantastic job with "The Grinch!" I uploaded the video to an unlisted YouTube channel. Check it out here!

We had a great time playing games, making crafts, eating snacks, and saying goodbye to friends at our Christmas party!

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL time celebrating the HOPE we have in our SAVIOR!!
I will miss my dear second graders and I am already looking forward to seeing them in January! Is it really almost half way through the year already?? I will be praying for each student, that they might come to a better understanding of who they are in Christ over this Christmas season!
MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

December!

December has been a crazy month! I am so thankful that the students are starting to feel better and are returning to school! Here are some pictures from the last few weeks:

What is better than reading with a friend?

Practicing spelling patterns with water words...

...and magnet words...
...and stamps!

We have also been using an ipad in our small group instruction and the kids have LOVED it!

Check out this link to an EduCreation that one of the book clubs made:

We have also been making vocabulary movies each week. The students love watching their classmates and themselves on the movies, it has been a great way to review and remember the words!

We have been learning about money in math, the students have enjoyed playing some games to practice counting coins.

We performed "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" in elementary chapel, the students did a great job! I'm excited for them to do it again on Thursday night!

We missed our classmates who were sick and prayed for them each day... This is a picture from a day when we only had 7!
WHAT?!? Only 7 second graders? That is crazy!!

The students spread the awesome news of our Savior's birth at the Christmas program...

And last, but not least, Anika H. lost a tooth!

We also started celebrating Cole's birthday, but he went home early because he was sick so we didn't get a picture! :( We will have to try again this week!

I'm looking forward to a special week with my twenty amazing second graders!

We are going to celebrate the HOPE we have because Christ came to earth. I'm so thankful that we have the opportunity to talk about the PEACE and JOY that is only found in HIM!
