Throughout the year we will be turning the stories that we study into Reader's Theaters. This is a great way for students to build fluency and practice reading with expression! We had so much fun acting out the story, Mushroom in the Rain.
We have been practicing different ways to read. We have learned the importance of building stamina while doing "Read to Self" and we have practiced building oral fluency by doing "Read to Partner." I think one of our favorite ways to become a better reader is to do "Listen to Reading."
You can download the free "Read to Kids" app and record favorite stories for your children to listen to as they follow along with the book. This is a great way for students to read books that might be too difficult to read independently. The students will become better readers as they see unknown words while they hear them being read.
In math we have been learning about collecting and organizing data. Each student came up with a survey question and then asked their classmates for answers. They recorded the data and will graph the results next week. Here are pictures of some students asking their questions. They are using the tube of paint as a microphone. :)
Each day as the students arrive they have "Morning Work" they must do to wake up their brains and get them ready to learn. When they finish their morning work, they have a few options of things they can work on until all the students arrive. One of their choices is to work on a puzzle. It is so fun to see their quiet determination as they work together...
After working on this puzzle for several weeks, they finally finished it on Thursday!
